Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions Mentors @ Work receives.
If you have a question that is not answered below, feel free to
Contact Us.
- How is the Apprenticeship/mentoring system delivered?
The Mentors @ Work system begins with on-site orientation and training (optional phone training is also available). Once up and running, Mentors At Work's expert "coaches" help manage the progress of each Mentor/Apprentice-trainee pair and report back to management. Tracking systems are used to track not only progress on an agreed upon task list, but also to track the all important dynamics of the Mentor/Apprentice-trainee interpersonal relations.
- How many Apprentices-trainees/Mentors can my company have?
Your company can have up to three (3) Mentors and an unlimited number of
Apprentices/trainees. Additional program licenses may be purchased if necessary. Use the system so that it is specific to
your company's needs. Each Mentors @ Work program is designed for one buesiness. Additional
programs must be purchased for multi-location operations.
- Do you provide us with Apprentices/trainees?
At this time Mentors @ Work does not act as a placement service.
The Mentors @ Work system does, however, provide you with new ways to
find and evaluate potential Apprentices/trainees. There are other ways to
recruit than by raiding your competitors employee base, and we will
show you how.
- What do I need to start the Mentors @ Work system in my
business?
You will need the proper computer requirements as well as the right attitude
and desire to grow your own employees. Check the Requirements
to find out exactly what you need to begin the system.
- How can I afford the lost productivity and how long until
I see a return on my investment?
Productivity is always a concern, but there is an upfront investment involved in starting new people. For example, in the automotive industry, we use the following table to show what can be expected in productivity from
a Mentor and an Apprentice when using the Mentors @ Work system.
Notice that if you have an employee who is turning
60 hours before the Apprentice begins, by week 6 your productivity is
back to that level. After 6 weeks, your productivity exceeds what
you had before the Apprentice. Using the system will help you rapidly
implement new employees that will actually contribute to your bottom line.

- Won't it cost me as much to recruit an Apprentice/trainee as it would
to get an employee who already knows the skills I need?
It is very difficult to attract top flight
employees with years of experience and who are dependable at all times and
in all circumstances. It is not so difficult to build that type of person,
if you use the system! Mentors @ Work is effective when used
with a new hire who has lots of experience in the industry, but it is also
very effective when used with an Apprentice/trainee who has absolutely NO experience.
Building an employee who is loyal to your organization and is brought up in
your company's culture is much more valuable than somebody who may already know
the skill sets but brings with them extra "baggage" from working at other locations. By using an Apprenticing/Mentoring system, you are creating loyalty in
each new employee you bring to your company.
- How much does the Mentors @ Work system cost?
The pricing for the Mentoring/Apprenticeship
systems we are currently offering is as follows:

- How do I know I'm recruiting the right Mentor/Apprentice-trainee?
We provide free evaluations of Mentor and Apprentice-trainee candidates. On your
administration site you have a section that allows you to review the evaluations
made by anyone who completes an evaluation for your company. This will give you a
numeric score evaluating whether they have the right skills to work well in an
Mentoring/Apprenticing system.
These evaluations are absolutely FREE! Just have the candidate go to
www.mentorsatwork.com and
take the evaluation offered near the bottom of the page.
- How do we retain our Apprentice/trainee after he/she has completed
the Mentors @ Work system?
By growing your employee within your company and devoting time and energy to see him
or her grow, you have created a built-in safety net. People recognize and appreciate
when an investment has been made in them. A person is more likely to stay with your
company when you use a specific system to grow them into a valuable employee.
You can also help your retention by showing them how valuable they are for having gone
through the Apprenticeship/Mentoring program. How? Turn an Apprentice/trainee into a Mentor. After having
completed the system as an Apprentice/trainee, your new employee has learned the techniques that
his or her Mentor used and can turn around and be an even better Mentor to the next
Apprentice/trainee that walks in the door.
- How do I provide incentives for my employees to become Mentors?
The Mentors @ Work system will deal directly with the pay methods necessary to
make sure both the Mentor and Apprentice/trainee are motivated, financially and otherwise, to succeed. Nobody will agree
to become a Mentor if they feel it will take money out of their pocket. Mentors @ Work
gives you the tools to make sure you use proper pay methods and acknowledge
your Mentor's and Apprentice's/trainee's success.
- What if we want one-on-one consulting on establishing or
evaluating an in-house training program?
Mentors @ Work offers expert consulting services to businesses looking for
one-on-one support. We stand ready to assist in establishing in-house training
programs in ANY industry and actively assist in the proper selection of in-house
mentors. Mentors @ Work conducts full-day and half-day training seminars for managers
and mentors to get them prepared to manage and operate a successful in-house training
program. These consulting sessions are best followed by the implementation of the
on-line Mentors @ Work program in order to track your results, coupled with the "We'll Manage It!" support program. Mentors @ Work also
evaluates existing programs and makes recommendations for improvements.
